Old Smokestacks

These enormous smokestacks have been dormant for years. Perhaps part of an old foundry? This photo was taken during the first real snow storm in NYC in 2007. Red Hook. Z750

Happy 4705! Fireworks Countdown...

Happy 4705!

Chinese New Year 4705 (2007)

I had a very, very good seat for this show, many floors above Columbus Park, at eye-level with the fireworks' crowns. The crowd below were more excited than I was, though, from the sound of the cheers. Chinese New Year is an interesting time, because it turns a neighborhood of random frenetic motion into a unified crowd that marches together, shouts together, plays music together. Everybody gets into the celebration. Posted by Picasa

Like, WOW. If evil spirits are afraid of light and noise, and good fortune is attracted to the light, then this is an auspicious sign for the year of the pig. Posted by Picasa

This photo is so similar to the one below, but I couldn't choose between them. Bad editing, it's true, but not much of an inconvenience, I hope. Note the fire truck in the midst of the crowd on Mulberry Street. Posted by Picasa
